Unstoppable Teams come in all shapes and sizes, but they all depend on understanding human emotions, motivations, and values. It is both complex and as simple as this: you must care. Caring is the cornerstone for building trust and persistence in any group. When people feel cared for and when they care about the tasks and goals at hand, they are willing to step beyond their perceived limits and dare to do something greater than they originally thought possible.
Why I Wrote Unstoppable Teams
The reason I’ve written this book, Unstoppable Teams, is that I have seen firsthand the importance of care-based leading. From leading Navy Seals to leading startups, it’s been my experience that anybody that truly cares about something and is willing to care, not just for the goal but for those around them, can be an Unstoppable Team leader.
Four Essential Actions of High-Performance Leadership
If you want to be a great team builder, then you need to learn to become a great relationship builder first. It starts with you. From experience and from training, I’ve identified four actions that, taken together, lie at the heart of every great team. I’ve created an acronym representing these actions, called CARE.
CARE Stands for Connect-Achieve-Respect and Empower
- Connect is about building trust
- Achieve is about setting direction
- Respect is about creating an environment for mutual contribution
- Empower is about creating owners
The greatest opportunities in the 21st century will be opportunities that are created by people coming together in selfless execution to accomplish something much greater than themselves. Now more than ever, strong teams are needed to solve the challenges of the world. The strength of a company, a community, and even a country depends on great teamwork.
